Needless to say, cyberattacks are a growing threat to citizens, administrations and industries. Cost of breaches is definitely on the rise and today’s question is not anymore ‘will I be attacked’, but rather ‘when’. Investing in cybersecurity is therefore of prime importance.
Innoviris, the Brussels Institute for the encouragement of scientific research and innovation, has thus decided to contribute to this effort by launching a strategic platform dedicated to information security via the 2015 edition of its Bridge Program.
Bridge projects are
• Academic projects,
• Organized in consortia of at least 2 labs from the Brussels Region,
• Fully funded by the Region, and
• Targeting economic value creation and technological transfer towards the industry.
To facilitate this fourth point, the consortia are surrounded by sponsor companies from the Region.
Within the broad spectrum covered by information security, the experts of Innoviris have identified three key themes:
• Big Data,
Three calls for proposals have been launched. The received proposals have been evaluated by Innoviris with the help of an international jury of experts. Eventually, 5 projects were retained:
• SCAUT and C-CURE (Authentication)
• BRUFENCE and SPICES (Big Data)
• SeCloud (Security-by-design)
These 3-year projects will gather 14 research groups from five universities and research centers. The allocated budget is 7.8MEuros. Furthermore, 20 sponsor companies will accompany the projects.
